"As a writer for Audio, Electronic Musician, Downbeat, and as the host for the thirty-years-running nationally-syndicated radio show ‘Echoes’ , I receive hundreds of submissions from electronic composers, new-age avatars, one-man bands and bedroom synthesists.

George Wallace’s Sacred Earth stood out immediately.

Wallace’s compositions exhibit an uncommon depth and conception, and I love the subtle sound shaping he got in his arrangements with the blend of electronic and acoustic elements. It’s the kind of music that triggers a travelogue of imagery that’s heightened by immaculate production. The maturity of his compositions exhibit a sensitivity that makes me want to hear more.

Sacred Earth was quickly taken to heart by ‘Stars End’ and ‘Diaspar’ Listeners, an audience for whom unique new music is the norm. Sacred Earth was not only one of the few recordings to make both the ‘Essential Diaspar’ and ‘Essential Star’s End’ listed for 1985, it was also one of the few albums among heavy-hitting releases by Kate Bush, Tangerine Dream, Andreas Vollenweider and Philip Glass.

In an era of cookie-cutter New Age generic records, George Wallace’s Sacred Earth fulfills the vision of a new musical era."

about

Sacred Earth is an evocative, one-hour musical experience of the primordial elements Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The four electro-acoustical movements offer a mix of lush, ethereal soundscapes, intense and drum-driven shamanistic chanting, and airy, sweetly hypnotic meditations.

Sacred Earth was my first venture into what has been called ‘Ambient’ music, or if you must, ‘New Age’. Before that I was primarily involved in various sub-genres of popular and rock music. There are a number of artists who inspired me to move past the currency of the Popular Song and explore a more long-form compositional style, but for now I am singling out four of those who were particularly influential.

So…many thanks and humble acknowledgement go to Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Wendy Carlos, and Jade Warrior, for their pioneering spirit and artistic integrity, and for helping me to expand my musical universe.
